Inspirational Texts - Magazine

This is my first inspiration text as Glamour a monthly womens lifestyle magazine has created a special edition for seperate regions. I was inspired by Katy Perry wearing a tshirt with the name of the region on and the " Birmingam this is for you" I think that it the black text stands out with the pink and orange and I like the use of shape to include the price.  Its going to differ from my magazine because mine will be fully based on the region where as the Glamour magazine includes 8 special pages on the region and the rest of the magazine is for the full country.  I like the happy pose and the free night out where you live offer to help attract in the readers. I also was inspired by the simple, readable text fonts in this magazine as its all clear  which stands out to the reader.

Another of my inpirations is the North Sheffield magazine Contents Page. It fits in with the colour scheme of the front cover also and Its a contents page thats filled with lots of information. I like the advertisements such as facebook and twtter logos at the bottom which I could include within my magazine. Ive noticed that this regional magazine includes a lot of adverts.
 

What I like about this magazine is the pose of the model on the cover she looks confident happy and healthy which appeals to a women audience.  Compared to magazines such as heat , look and grazia there is less information on the front. I also like the coloured scheme and I really like how the magazine includes alot of places within North Sheffield which I also will do for my Newcastle Magazine. The double page in the magazine about the carnival inspires me to create a festival page in Newcastle. I like that theres both a lot of text and pictures  .

Angel Magazine is one of Londons regional magazines and once again I can see there isnt a lot of detail in the cover. The headings are spaced out which isnt what we see on weekly womens lifestyle like Now.  I also really like the colour scheme its simple but Bold and only uses Black , White and Silver. I think I will also make my front cover have less on it taking inspiration from these regional magazines.

Within Grove magazine another london region magazine We can see a article on a musician who was made in Notting Hill.  I like the layout and the pose of the musician.

Pitch

The genre of my magazine that I would like to do would be a entertainment magazine specifically aimed at say the north east region . I would like to include fashion , style , events , celebrity hotspots, places to eat with reviews.  I got some inspiration to do this when I saw a issue of glamour magazine which is a womans lifestyle magazine with monthly sales over 515281 and they created an issue that was specialised to each region such as newcastle and london and katy perry who was on the front wore a tshirt with the name of the region which I would like to incorparate in to my magazine.Most regional magazines Ive research for the main image feature either a building , place that shows the best of the region. EG) Penshaw Monument , a resturant.  Locations could include sunderland city centre style and top resturants in Sunderland. I think it would be a good idea for the characters makeup to be done not over the top just nice and natural to show a different side to sunderland other than what others may think. Because of the genre still being a womans lifestyle magazine the colour scheme needs to be thought about to attract readers . I will test out different examples and post them on my blog. I like the idea including text such as "special north east issue " or " Sunderland this is for you" to make it clear that it is a regional magazine based for that area. The text will be clear and simple no hard to read fonts. The main image like other magazines can be focused on a certain place in sunderland

Proposal

The brief that I would like to pursue is  The first four pages from an original regional magazine together with 2 of the following options wither a radio advertisement for the magazine , two hyperlinked pages from the magazines website and a billboard advertisement for the magazine. Ive chosen this brief because it intrested me the most. I would like to create a new regional magazine that includes fashion , local talent , celebrity hangouts , gossip , a free night out say in that area, style , events , best places to eat. I would like to achieve a new upcoming magazine and a billboard advertisement along with 2 hyperlinked pages from the magazines website.

Reflection on AS work

Firstly my AS coursework has helped me improve dramatically on my skills and use of photoshop. I got to experiment with the different tools and by doing this I developed my magazine into a well presented HipHop magazine from a average magazine. Getting a C in my coursework was a grade I was happy with and I had much fun in creating my magazine. Even the writing and my blog has helped with my writing structure and sentencing. Theres always room for improvement and my magazine could have been improved further to achieve a higher grade. I've really enjoyed learning about the different types of media and the factors that are important within a magazine such as a catchy heading to attract the reader, a colour scheme fitted to the correct genre and advertisements thats suitable for your magazine. EG) A beauty magazine wouldnt want to see advertisements for the latest football season.
